Your Auto Insurance Policy In The Holiday Season When the end of the year or even Easter break rolls around, people are looking forward to the rest and relaxation they will enjoy after the long hard year of work. It is important that, even though you are now in rest mode, you do not become slack in the important areas of your life. Directly translated, this means that you must not become reckless or careless regarding your driving and traveling on the roads. Doing this can directly aggravate and ruin your car insurance for the year to come. You do not want to be going forth into the New Year knowing you are going to have to pay a higher auto insurance premium because you had an accident over the festive season.
Everyone knows that the festive season brings with it a lot of parties, gatherings and general merry making. This usually involves the consumption of alcohol. Unfortunately, a lot of people find themselves still operating their vehicles, even after having consumed alcohol. Traffic police are becoming stricter and stricter regarding people driving on the roads whilst under the influence of alcohol. This is only because statistics have proved that the majority of vehicle collisions are directly attributed to the consumption of liquor. If you are caught driving whilst under the influence, you will be given a ticket, a fine, and could even be locked up. This will become a black mark on your record which your auto insurance company WILL take into account, and you will therefore have to pay a higher premium as you will be seen as a higher risk driver. This is not even taking into account the risk you run of actually having a collision. There would be nothing worse for the holiday season than to have an accident, where you could hurt yourself, one of your passengers, and also any other parties involved in the accident. This will get you into even further trouble with the law and will just not be worth it! If you have been consuming alcohol, do not feel brave enough to drive, rather leave your vehicle where it is and go home safely in a taxi, or alternatively get someone who has not been consuming liquor to take you home in your vehicle. Holiday time can often mean traveling long distances. People venture down to the coast if living inland, or venture out to far places to visit family or resorts. Whatever your reason for traveling, ensure that you are doing so safely. Have your car thoroughly checked over before you leave on your trip. Faulty tires and brakes can cause an accident. Stop regularly on the road for rests, and perhaps a coffee break. Another leading cause of accidents is drowsy drivers who fall asleep at the wheel. If you start to feel lethargic whilst you are driving, take a break, or get someone else to take over. Do not be impatient and try and rush to your destination. If the drive ranges many hours, take a stop off nap and break, or switch drivers along the way. Speeding will be another cause for trouble too, as you could either get a ticket, which will be a black mark on your name, or you could be involved in a collision.
